SHORT COURSE #2:
Geology And Processing of Critical Minerals for Electrification
Short Course #2 Description:
One day course: November 2, 2026 8:00am - 5:00pm
Alaska has high potential for many non-traditional commodities now in high demand for use in batteries, motors, and other new technology, including graphite, lithium, nickel, and lanthanides (rare earths). This short course will provide an overview of how deposits of these critical minerals form in nature and are mined and processed. The course will include time for open discussion and viewing of hand samples and is designed for participants with a range of backgrounds from geology to mining and metallurgy.

Short Course #3 Description:
1/2 day course: November 2, 2026 8:00am - 12:00pm
During this course, participants will explore the critical connections between education, workforce development, and thriving communities in Alaska. Through discussion, hands-on activities, and real-world perspectives, participants will examine how these areas intersect with the mining industry and explore strategies for navigating meaningful conversations about resource development, workforce needs, community priorities, and education. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the collaborative role educators, industry, and communities play in shaping the future of mining and Alaska’s workforce.
