Alaska Miners Association Action Alerts

Is Your MSHA Training Current?

It is time for all mines to review their training records to ensure that both training and training records are current and complete.

For Gravel Operators - Mining and Petroleum Training Service (MAPTS) notes that 30 CFR 46.3(4) requires that if you use a third-party training provider (like MAPTS or some other subject matter expert) to provide training, you must list that person or organization and the subjects they are competent to teach on your training plan. For more information contact Rene Azzara of MAPTS 907-262-2788

NPDES Permit Holders Note!

Don't forget that if you have an NPDES Permit you must send your DMR (Discharge Monitoring Report) to EPA by January 31 for the previous year. This applies even if you did not mine!! Review your permit for specific requirements.

Convert from Federal to State Claims?

There is a process in place for persons who own federal mining claims to change from federal to state ownership of the land. This is possible when the State of Alaska has selected the area of the federal claims prior to the selection deadline of January 1994. Federal claimants interested in this should contact Kerwin Krause in the Division of Mining at 907-269-8652.

Is Your Address Of Record Correct?

Do the Division of Mining and the BLM have your correct address? Mailings from these agencies to claimholders, permit holders, etc., are often returned. With more than 50,000 state and 10,000 federal claims, neither agency can follow up on all returned notices. If you have any doubt, contact the respective agency immediately!!!
